Life Story for Edith Zybelman


Edith Zybelman who was born October 24, 1924 in Czestochowa Poland passed away peacefully in her sleep on April 10, 2017. She is survived by her sons Jay and Steven Zybelman,
Granddaughters Gabrielle Johnston and Arielle Zybelman, great granddaughter Camille Harper Johnston and many other loving family members and friends. At the young age of 16 she was swallowed up by the horrors of the Second World War.
Her parents, sister and relatives all perished in the war. She spent the war years working in a munitions factory in a Nazi concentration camp. Her future husband Leon Zybelman was in the same camp, but had escaped several weeks before its liberation by the Russian army.
Leon returned to find Edith after the wars end. Leon and Edith and her surviving sister Regina were married in a mass ceremony with fifty other survivors. In 1945 Leon and Edith escaped Poland and settled in Bamberg Germany. In 1949 with the help of a nephew, who worked as a translator for the US Army, they left for the United States and settle in New York City. Together they established a Beauty and Barber shop. Leon and Edith left for San Diego in 1964 where they had family and friends. In San Diego they reestablished their Beauty and Barber shops. San Diego proved to be an oasis where they were able to to live the remainder of their lives in peace and tranquility.
